Eva Blackwell Rogelj is a Mancunian/Slovenian writer-director based in London. Her work interrogates gendered power in modern language, movements, and spaces with a portfolio of narrative shorts and experimental work that includes a collection of micro-shorts PUNČKA CINE, music videos, and acrylic paintings.
Her most recent release WATERING HOLE is a 15 min narrative drama set in Manchester. The film follows two young girls as they go out to steal free drinks off men in a local pub. But as their night and sobriety descends they realise just how different their morals are, and just how dangerous UK nightlife can be. The film has been selected for BIFA qualifying festivals and platforms as well as winning the awards for Best Director at the Manchester Lift Off Film Festival, Best Indie Film at Wrap Film Festival and Best Female Director at the New York Film and Cinematography Awards.
She is currently in post-production on an experimental film RUSALKI, supported by MiraBan, that tackles modern femicide through a retelling of Slavic Folklore. She is also in pre-production on her next narrative short BABA YAGA, a digital tale about heartbreak, anti-aging algorithms and relationships in a world of echo chambers.
Having attained a First-Class BA at King’s College London, Eva went on to work professionally in the Art Department on Netflix and Amazon feature films and currently works in-house for Left Bank Pictures.
Eva is a founding member of the London-based art collective VULGARIS.
